SYMPTOMS OF LUMBAR SPINAL STENOSIS
Identifying Symptoms of Lumbar Spinal StenosisThere are unique symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis. How do you know the difference between lumbar stenosis and herniated is a condition where there is a narrowing of the spine causing the nerve root to get pinched. This condition results in weakness in the leg, pain upon walking 10 or more steps, pain that is alleviated with sitting down and pain that can be made better if leaning forward.Unique Symptoms of Spinal StenosisPain is worst below the knees: Although you can still feel pain in your lower back the higher intensity of the pain is felt in your lower back if you are a lumbar spinal stenosis sufferer.Pain is worse with Standing: Pain is felt because the spine is pressing down on the vertebrae, causing the pain to be felt worse.Pain is worse with walking: Walking for more than a few steps can be very painful. The walking forces the nerves to fire to move the muscles down the leg. The firing of the nerves through the pinched area of the spine, is blocked or “squashed” as the nerve exits the spine, causes more pain to be felt.Pain is alleviated with sitting: When standing the spine is in a closed position. When you are sitting the stenosis is alleviated because the pelvis moves forward and opens in the vertebrae where the nerve passes through. If you are suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis, then you will readily identify with one or more of these symptoms. The worst part of stenosis is the seemingly endless use of Naproxen and ibuprofen, the countless epidural injections and nerve block and the dreaded word- surgery! And yet, for all that you have tried, you still have pain!Acupuncture offers a conservative clear way to help you deal with your lumbar spinal stenosis when combined with manual therapy. The use of the acupuncture needles helps release a key muscle that is the deepest laying muscle in your back. By releasing this muscle, you can crate more space between the nerve and the spine. Think of it as buffing out a dent of the car to allow the wiring to go back to normal. It is true you cannot do anything to treat the structural change, but you can help make the area open by affecting the tight and stiff muscle called the multifidus.Want to see if acupuncture is a good fit for you?
