The Downward Spiral of Health
The Downward Spiral of Health.
Where are you on the trail?
There is a downward spiral of health that occurs when people start to age. At first, it is not apparent, but after age 35 physical health starts its very slow decline. The diseases and the limitations set in, the accidents and surgeries pile up, the inflammation kicks in, and weight and flexibility get worse. We have started to embrace the health, diet, exercise and nutrition conversations. However, disease and restriction are affecting us. Heart disease occurs on average to the male at 66-years old and the average age for women at 70. Diabetes incidence is 9.4 percent of the U.S. population. Increase in other conditions has also been documented. We still suffer from declining health from many causes. Many are looking to get healthier and stay healthier. This trend has only grown in the last 10 years and has pushed thousands to eat better, diet, exercise more, and take vitamins. However, this has only somewhat helped us. There are major gaps in what we are trying to achieve and what we are actually doing. There is still a big gap between what we are trying to achieve and what we are actually getting.Chinese medicine has largely developed into a longevity medicine. Chinese medicine has been asking, how people can stay healthy and live longer, with most of their capacities intact? That question has reverberated throughout the East through for thousands of years. So, what did the dialogue discover? Increasing blood flow can help promote inner healing, along with helping the longevity of our tissues and cells.Chinese medicine suggests that if there is extremely good blood flow throughout the body, then less disease will take root. This means less fatigue, less insomnia, less anxiety or depression, less restriction of motion, and less overall pain!Looking at this statement today, it makes sense. We can see the consequence of poor blood flow in heart attacks, high cholesterol, diabetic neuropathy, and inflammatory conditions. Chinese medicine has a singular aim- to keep people healthy for as long as possible. It goes beyond what we understand as “preventative medicine”.Western medicine does include some preventative measures, like colonoscopies and breast examinations. The main goal is keeping the body functioning and counteracting the conditions of life and aging on our bodies. The problem today is we don’t have machines that can detect how poorly we are functioning before something goes wrong. You have to be sick or in enough pain for a test to prove it something is wrong before corrective action can take place. Most of it is the management of a condition, not its reversal. You have to have symptoms before you can do anything about it.Chinese medicine helps prevent these problems by reaching the source before it can go wrong or get worse. For example, many people with insomnia and anxiety have some issue with poor blood circulation to the heart. Its too small to be picked up by an EKG screening. The role of Chinese medicine is to treat the issue at the lowest level before it becomes a full-blown disease in the future.Chinese medicine used techniques like pulse diagnosis, motion tests, and symptoms, to identify underlying patterns that were or would be affecting the patient's body and then go about treating it.
Taking care of ourselves only when we feel sick is killing us.
We only take corrective action, when we are sick. There is more to pay attention to, such as, when we constantly exhausted, when we are 20 pounds overweight, in other words, when we are also sick.Chinese medicine treats problems such as reoccurring pain, and issues to deal with lack of blood flow to certain areas. In order to be more proactive with your health, imagine doing some sort of maintenance work for your body, throughout your entire life. How could these ailments and disease be prevented, so you didn’t age so fast and feel healthier? If your body didn’t have to wait to be treated when it was sick, you could keep the body going strongly, and prevent the devolving of our health.
Just because medical tests are negative doesn’t mean you are functioning at 100% health.
Your body is always in a state of decline. Rather than chalk it up to age, Chinese medicine attempts to slow this down in helpful ways that can improve your body inside and out. If people just realized this, as many patients in my clinic after their own treatments, they would be able to begin feeling more energy, experience less pain and sleep better. The top problems I see are chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. These are the softer signs that something is wrong with your body. Just because your physical tests are negative, doesn’t necessarily mean that “nothing is wrong with you”. You are still suffering from the same issues. People have largely given up the fight for feeling good. They say they feel too old, they feel too tired, and they just give up.Chinese medicine has developed over the centuries to address these exact feelings. Many are starting to hear the “music”. Although others relegate Chinese medicine to nonsense. According to Chinese medicine, however, there is still room for improvement in your health because what we are doing is improving functioning of your body. Chinese medicine has been trying to get people healthier while slowing down their rapid downward spiral of health. For each person, it can be a different experience.I find that once people understand what Chinese medicine is doing for them, they want it too.
