Acupuncture in Ridgwood NJ

March 28, 2017 By Joshua Goldstein, Ridgewood Acupuncturist

The magic is in the effects of the needle!

I am a provider of Acupuncture in Ridgewood NJ. For many, it can be a real leap of faith when exploring the use of acupuncture.  Doesn’t it feel that way? There are many practical and conceptual questions that need to be addressed. So that’s why I complied a list of things you need to consider before trying acupuncture.

INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT

Acupuncture treatments have to be individualized to serve the diverse needs of different clients. For example, I get needle phobic patients walking in. They must be hurting bad, otherwise, why would they come in. Sometimes their wife or even daughter brings them in. I use fewer needles or needle in areas that are not as sensitive. Sure I could do more, but in these cases, less is more. I want the patient to get a positive experience the first visits. From there the treatment may or may not change, depending on how the patient will respond. there are needle  phobic or you are in agonizing pain, you can be given more gentle treatments using needles in areas that are not that sensitive. This helps you feel more relaxed you feel more comfortable with acupuncture, and how it goes, more points or different point say from the arms and legs can be used.

IS THE ACUPUNCTURIST LICENSED?

Some states require that acupuncturists be licensed. Others accept the national certification method. For example, I received my license in 2000 and I have been certified by the National Commission for Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, the national certification method, since 1999. I am licensed in New York and New Jersey.

DO YOU WORK WITH INSURANCES?

I also work with many insurances. Insurances that we work with including Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United Healthcare. There are other out of state plans that also cover acupuncture like Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield of New York. We take the extra step in finding out whether your particular plan has coverage for acupuncture. Many times, a provider is listed on an insurance list, but the insurance that your employer purchased for you, does not have coverage. For those who do not have insurance coverage we offer packages with reduced rates. We also have a special senior rate for seniors as well.

DO YOU HAVE GOOD RAPPORT?

Most importantly, it is critical to establish good rapport with the patient so that they feel that they can trust me. Trust is the basis of everything, especially when you are having them place the needle into the body. Getting acupuncture for the first time is a lot different than trying a new dish at a restaurant! That’s why I set up for more time with a new clients so I can get to know them, their struggles and to really delve into their health condition. So having that trust and the feeling that the other person knows what they are doing, and has your best interest at heart, is truly the mark of the best type of acupuncturist that you can seek out for your health concerns. For residents of Ramsey NJ Acupuncture can be a positive thing if it is done with these pointers in mind.

GIVE IT A CHANCE!

I’m going to jump on my soap box now , so please forgive me. Some patients feel that they  ought to be cured in 1 to 3 visits. This is not necessary the case. Your body didn’t get the condition overnight, so it follows that it won’t go away instantly as well.a program of regularly done acupuncture is needed to get the results you are looking for.  We are trying to push your body to make the changes it needs by utilizing its own resources so it can self regulate and heal itself. It may take more than 1 visit to do that. think about it your body is able to produce pain relieving substances on its own that are 100 times stronger than morphine. It takes time to do that for some conditions. During the initial encounter we set up a time frame and the parameters for a treatment schedule that can get you the results you want.

These are some of the most common questions that need to be answered before starting acupuncture.  tin getting acupuncture. At our clinic  we provide Acupuncture in Ridgewood NJ.
