Joshua Goldstein, Acupuncturist Ridgewood
I received my training from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Manhattan where I earned my Master’s Degree in Oriental Medicine and Bachelor of Science. I am licensed in New Jersey and New York. I also hold a Diplomate in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Prior to receiving my Master’s degree, I earned my undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Secondary Education from the Queen’s College of New York. I have been a student and a practitioner of Oriental medicine for the past 16 years. For several years prior to practicing acupuncture, I studied and practiced shiatsu massage.
What prompted my interest in Asian healing methods started subtly as far back as the end of my high school years. I started reading about and eating macrobiotically to help support my mom who started to eat this way in attempts to become healthier. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a year later. I learned about this particular Eastern dietary system along with mind -body techniques and shiatsu which she used in attempts to fight her cancer. These early impressions of her struggle left me wanting to help others with Eastern healing methods.
Looking back, I can say the seeds of my course of study were planted well before I even thought of getting involved in Chinese medicine. My purpose ever since has been to help as many people as I can, healthy or not, by improving the quality of their lives. In Chinese medicine, there is an emphasis on addressing the underlying cause(s) of disease. It is in this spirit that I practice, motivating people to make shifts in their thinking as well as shifts in their bodies so they can make lasting positive changes in their health and their lives.
